Why We Designed a Putter First: A Toddler’s True First Golf Club
At Drake & Birdie Golf Co., we started with the putter and it was on purpose.
If you think back to your childhood or watch any young child get introduced to the game of golf, the story usually starts the same way: riding along in the cart, dropping an extra ball on the green, and getting a chance to putt it like mom or dad. It’s one of golf’s most common entry points. It’s also one of the most overlooked moments when it comes to equipment.
Most toddler golf clubs on the market are either plastic toys or generic versions of adult gear scaled down, but not thoughtfully designed. As a parent and golfer, I saw my daughter light up when she got the chance to hit a real putt. But nothing out there really matched her size or her style, so we built it ourselves.
Putting Is Where Golf Begins
For toddlers ages 3–5, putting offers:
· Instant feedback (they see the ball move!)
· A natural motion that’s easy to mimic
· Minimal frustration compared to full swings
The putter is often a child’s very first golf club, and we believe that moment deserves something better.
That’s why we created a real toddler putter. One that’s stylish, functional, and built to inspire confidence from the very first swing. Whether it's on a local practice green, your backyard, or just tagging along for a few holes, Drake and Birdie putters are made to be that first meaningful introduction to the game.
We didn’t just design a club.
We designed a memory-maker.
